Learning to play the guitar is easy. Learning to play it well is another matter entirely. From finger-picking to tapping techniques, styles vary greatly and no matter whether you choose to practice jazz scales or funky rhythms, learning to play any instrument takes patience and good information to start with. The choices don't stop there. From acoustic guitars to the latest electric guitars with multi-necks with 4,6,8,10 or 12 strings. The amount of information and knowledge required makes you dizzy... and we didn't even mention guitar effects!
After you've chosen your instrument you'll need to master a few skills from simply tuning, to picking, strumming, finger picking, chords, scales, rhythm, solo arrangement, mastering the art of the guitar solo etc. You may want to play acoustic, electric, bass, or several instruments. Each has it's own particular techniques, benefits and limitations.
Of course then there's effects, and learning how to get a good sound on your recordings! Musicians have never been so challenged.
If you are a lead, rhythm or bass guitar player you'll be interested in our scales and finger exercises to improve your solo work, and our chord translator is invaluable for transposition of songs and working out finger positioning. As part of ongoing site development we also plan to add an online guitar chord reference in the very near future.
To try and help, we've collected lots of useful information together in one place!
